Light:No Direct Sun.. A north window is best for this plant
They need at least 8 hours of darkness a day to bloom
Water:Water from the bottom of the pot, be careful not to get water on the leaves.
It is best to fill a saucer and leave plant in for an hour or so then dump
Temp:Day time temps no higher than 85 degrees and night time temps around 65,
no lower than 60 degrees
Soil:1/3 Peat moss, 1/3 Vermiculite and 1/3 perlite
Fertilizer:With a good African Violet food or a 20-20-20 fertilizer
Pests:Botrytis Caused from the leaves staying to wet. And meely bug which
can be prevented by adding Diatomaceous Earth to your potting soil, it is
recommended to add 1/4 of tablespoon to one liter of soil
Special Care:To grow extra large violets you need to do 2 things
1) make sure your violet does not become root bound.
2) debud the plant to allow all the extra energy to go to the plant itself
instead of to the blooms
Flower Color:Shades of Purple, Lavender, Pink, & White
Growth Habit:stay low and bushy and avg no taller than 4 to 6 inches
Fun Fact:African violet (Sainpaulia ioanantha) gets its common name from looking
so much like wild violets
