Seasonal items are prebooked.

Light:Medium light at a partly shaded window is best throughout spring, summer and fall. The less powerful winter sun is not so likely to harm these plants.

Water:During the entire year, except for a brief period following the end of the flowering period, water plentifully as often as necessary to keep the potting mixture thoroughlymoist, but do not allow pots to stand in water. Mist often in dry environments.

Temp:Normal room temperatures are suitable throughout the year. They will benefit frombeing placed in a shady spot outdoors during late spring and summer. Move themback indoors before the start of cold weather.

Soil:Use a peat-based potting mixture made more porous by the addition of one part ofcourse sand or perlite to every three parts of the standard mixture.

Fertilizer:Except during the brief period of moderate watering immediately following the end of
the flowering period, apply a high-potassium, tomato-type fertilizer once every two
weeks throughout the year.

Pests:Aphids and mealybugs.

Special Care:Flower bulbs may drop off after they have formed as a result of drafts, sudden
changes of temperatures, or either dried out or water-logged roots. When moving
a budding plant, be careful not to change the plant's position relative to the source
of light. The buds may try to turn to face the light, become weak and may fall off.

Flower Color:The most popular colors are red, white and yellow.

Growth Habit:A good average specimen is likely to have a height and spread of about 12 inches. The densely branching, mainly pendent stems consist of many thin, flat, medium green segments. Each joined segments is about an inch long and 3/4 - 1 inch wide. At the tip of the end segment of each stem is where the flowers arise.

Fun Fact:The plants are professionally forced into bloom at Christmas time, therefore theyare commonly called the Christmas cactus. The plant grown in the home will usuallybloom later. If the plants come into bloom at Thanksgiving, it is called the Thanks-giving cactus.

The key to a happy plant is proper care!
