Unit Pack Size: 6" Pot
Light:Cannas grow best outdoors and are happiest in full sun. Dwarf varieties grown indoors
should be placed near a sunny window.
Water:Once the plant is growing well in the spring, water well once a week. No watering inthe winter, when tubers are lifted and stored in a dry area.
Temp:Outdoors, full sun. Indoors 60-70 degrees is fine.
Soil:Plant Cannas in fresh soil every spring after overwintering. Ideal soil mix is equal partshumus, compost and coarse sand. Regular potting soil is also fine as long as it hasplenty of organic matter.
Fertilizer:Fertilize once a week.
Pests:Spider mites.
Special Care:The plants need to be dug up as soon as they have been touched by the first frost.
Remove all traces of soil. Cut all remaining foliage completely off and leave the tubers
in a warm and dry spot until they are completely dry and then store them in a cool
(40-50 degrees) dry place for the winter. Do this for indoor-grown plants also.
Flower Color:The flowers come in a wide range of bright colors, most often yellow, orange, red
and sometimes bicolored.
Growth Habit:Normally a tall, upright growing plant. Most hybrids grow to 5-6 feet tall but there are
also dwarf varieties only 2 1/2 to 3 feet tall. They are fast growers.
Fun Fact:Cannas were great favorites during the Victorian era and into the early part of this
century. During the 20's and 30's Cannas were the subject of much hybridizing and
many of the hybrids we have today were produced during this time.
The key to a happy plant is proper care!
