Light:Provide an area with bright light but keep out of hot, direct sun. Some direct sun is beneficial to keep the color in the leaves. If the plant is in a very shady or lowlight area, it will lose its bright colors.
Water:During the active growth period water moderately, enough to make the entire
potting mixture moist, but allow the top half-inch of mixture to dry out betweenwatering. During the brief winter rest period water sparingly, enough to make
the mixture barely moist.
Temp:Normal room temperatures are suitable; these plants cannot survive in temperaturesbelow 58 degrees.
Soil:Use a soil-based potting mixture.
Fertilizer:Standard liquid fertilizer every 2 weeks during active growth period.
Pests:Brown Scale, which should be treated with an insecticide
Special Care:This plant likes 50 percent humidity or more. This plant does great in terrariums.
You can also mist the leaves occasionally.
Flower Color:In early spring small lilac-colored flowers are produced but are insignificant.
Growth Habit:This plant can grow quite big, its maximum suitable height and spread are about
15" as it tends to become straggly. The pointed, oval leaves are 2 1/2" long and
1 1/2" wide, dark olive green heavily spotted with light pink markings.
Fun Fact:Its common names are baby's tears, flamingo plant, freckle face, polka-dot plant.
